Twenty-Nine 2: The Reckoning

Thirty years ago today the most important person in my world was born.

During our first couple years of marriage, I sucked when it came to birthdays. I've spent the years since then trying to make up for it in an epic way. So I'm not exaggerating when I say that we've been celebrating Matt's thirtieth birthday for the past month.

It's almost impossible to get anything past him, but with the help of our amazing friends Tara and Jeremy, we were able to pull off a surprise birthday party for Matt on New Years Eve.

It was both happy and sad. The reason we threw it so early was because our friends were moving January 2nd and wouldn't be around for Matt's actual birthday. Despite feeling awful about our friends leaving, we celebrated Matt the best anyone knows how - with steak, cake, and Spider-Man.

This ridiculously delicious cake was provided by Caked Cupcake Boutique and I can't even begin to describe the awesomeness of it! "Milk chocolate cupcake topped with a caramel buttercream, a hint of kosher salt, and a gooey caramel drizzle."

Part two of Matt's birthday came when we attended Comic Con (his first birthday present) and bought a Master Sword (second present).

And now it's his actual birthday and I'm completely out of cash, parties, gifts and ideas. I thought about writing a list of 30 Wonderful Things About Matt, but it felt a little cliche. There are more than 30 wonderful things about Matt, and I'm not going to limit my love for him by the number of his birth.

I've been able to share fourteen birthdays with him. Almost half his entire life has been spent with me, and I'm just so damn lucky for that. Sometimes I love this man so much that I can't sleep because of it. I'll wake up in the middle of the night feeling overwhelmed by how good I have it, or extremely panicked that he'll die in his sleep and I'll be stuck in this world without him, so I'll lean over to his side of the bed and pluck his arm hair, which will cause him to twitch, but not completely wake up. It's a pretty solid, "Hey are you dead?" test.

So if anyone is wondering where I'll be today, you can find me overjoyed in the arms of my one and only, eating pizza in bed and watching his favorite scary movies. Cause a birthday is just like every other day - and I lucked out that my every other day begins and ends with Matt.

Happy Birthday, My Amazing Spider-Matt. <3
