Breakup Letter with Android

Dear Droid,

We've been through a lot together. I tell everyone that you were my first Smartphone. Mostly because I can't remember the name of the Smartphone I had before you.

You were the mobile computer when I couldn't be at home online (where I always really want to be). When I had a job, you were there to remind me that I had obligations to like things on Facebook, and there were Re-tweets aplenty to take care of.

When I was forced to spend quality time with my family, you were there to distract me with Angry Birds and Words with Friends. You've always been there for me Android. So much so that anytime I've needed an upgrade for my phone, I've always taken you. Eris you, X you, X2 you and and Razr Maxx you.

But, my dear Droid . . . it is time for us to part ways.

Because your camera sucks.

Seriously, I'm trying to be nice about this, and I've always defended you when iPhone users talked smack, but the other day I tried to take a simple picture of my manicure, and you basically called me a whore to my face. The photo was all blurry. Are you trying to say my nails look like crap? Real subtle, Droid.

Also, even though I'm pretty sure it's the apps fault here, why do you keep closing Tweetcaster anytime I open it? Do you think I'm done reading my tweets? Cause I'm not. And I know it's not your fault, but I had to wait so long for you to get a real Pinterest app. You know how important Pinterest is to me. Sure you have Pinterest now, but what next Droid? What will you make me wait for next?

So yesterday someone new came into my life.

His name is iPhone. I call him 4S.

My husband introduced us, and even though I'd always thought he was kind of a snob, his brother iPad was there for me when my computer crashed a few months ago. So I asked my friends about him, and they all said that he was really nice and reliable.

I know it's not the operating system I'm used to, but dammit Droid I'm 28 years old and I need to experience new things while I'm still young! Yes you are 4G and iPhone 4S is only 3G, but it's not the speed of the system, it's how you use it.

You were just holding me back. iPhone has been good to me after our first day together. His photos of me are accurate and clear. And I know what you're going to say, does it really all come down to appearances?

Yes. It really, really does.

Farewell old friend.

Update: On a more "serious" note, I really did hold out on switching to iPhone for a long time. But the difference in the camera quality completely tipped the scales. Here's what I mean.

I took these two pictures within minutes of one another (although I did have to restack my wheels cause they fell over in between shots). Everything is the same and what very little editing (cropping and resizing) I've done, I did exactly to both.

I'll tell you right away that the iPhone 4S photo is more accurate to the eye. The colors are accurately presented, sharp, clear and bright (reflecting natural light). The Droid photo is blurry, grey, dark, the light is poorly reflected, the colors are misrepresented and parts of the image aren't even seen (certain colors are duo-chrome and have shimmers).

I'm officially an iPhone girl.

Update x2: This is a serious wound in my pride by the way. I've complained about Apple products for years and accepting the iPhone (let alone preferring it) is enough to have my husband rub this in my face for years to come. So I'll go ahead and say it right here (and only right here) . . . Matt was right.

Ugh, that felt dirty.
