Emo's Ruined Twilight For Me

I haven't read the books or seen the movie yet, but Emo kids have ruined Twilight already for me.

I knew about the books of course, mostly because I'm Mormon so everyone at Church carries their copy around side by side with their scriptures, and some of my friends are even related to the author. But I have issues with reading fiction in the first place, so I was going to wait for the movie. But now I don't even want to.

Because of people like this:

Seriously, when did depression become a fashion trend!?

When did Hot Topic cater to this kind of crap? I remember going into Hot Topic when I was in High School. Sure we wore black, sure we dyed our hair different shades of black, red and purple. Sure we were freaks, but we were HAPPY ABOUT IT!

Untypically Jia, circa 1999

You Emo kids have ruined good music, good style, rebellion, Hot Topic and now you've just destroyed vampires for me.

Last Thursday, Matt and I got pancake cravings at around 2:30 in the morning so we headed down to IHOP which is normally dead at this hour. We walked in and were surrounded by teenagers with black hair (and a red stripe), black clothing and socks on their wrists.

Matt: Did a My Chemical Romance concert just get out?

And then I heard from the booth behind us, "I know, and Edward was portrayed so perfectly. Like OMG." And I knew . . . Twilight.

Of course when we casually walked through the movie theatre during opening day and caught one of our Sunday School students there, we feared the worst . . . did we teach Emo kids? Or was she there because she was LDS?

I felt better when I saw one of my friends there . . . completely geeked out in her Twilight gear:

She's also my Relief Society President. Mormons win this war you rotten Emos!

PS: I hope you Emos are happy, you've also ruined my Thanksgiving post!

I didn't think Twilight was anything special. The movie was sooo CHEESY! It's just for teenagers! And the books...well, I don't like her writing style. So don't worry, your not missing anything!

Mm..yes. Ok. Well, sorry Emo's had that effect for you. I <3 Emo's, and I <3 Twilight. I <3 Hot Topic. Hopefully you have a better Thanksgiving.

YES! Thank you!

I remember the days of having to scour St. Mark's Place in NYC for manic panic (this is even BEFORE Hot Topic) - we're talking mid 90's here.

Unfortunately, I still have red streaks in my hair, but as someone who's been dying for about 16 years now, I think I earned my pre-emo cred.
