Now, please keep in mind that the LDS Church does NOT practice polygamy.
I've often thought, "What if there still was polygamy outside of Colorado sects? What if it was legal and it didn't involve abusing children and child brides?" I could understand how having a Sister-Wife would be nice at certain points (the points where she wasn't sleeping with my husband that is.) But having another woman around the house to hang out with, talk to, and to help clean and cook. It would be awesome.
So there is this girl that Matt works with, who's just a doll. She's married to one of Matt's friends, and they have the cutest little boy. They're good friends of ours. Anyways . . . during one of those late night conversations, I asked Matt, "If we were polygamous, I think I'd like her for a sister-wife. She's really nice. Who would you want?"
Matt usually gets uncomfortable during these moments because he feels like it's a trap. "I only like one wife, thank you." He says, not taking the potential bait. "It's not a trap, I'm just curious."
"She's nice." He says and then follows up with. "One wife, good thanks." And throws in a, "You're beautiful," followed up with a, "And very skinny." For good measure, just in case.
But apparently, despite his large objections . . .
Matt: So you know how you said you wanted her to be my second wife?
Me: Theoretically, yes.
Matt: I told her.
Me: YOU WHAT!?
Matt: I told her. She was having a bad day, I thought I'd cheer her up.
Me: By saying, "Hey my wife thinks we should have sex,"!?
Matt: No.
Me: "And live with us illegally,"?!
Matt: No. I was talking about that show Big Love, and said that you thought that if we were polygamous, she should be our second wife cause she's nice and stuff.
Me: Oh my . . . gosh . . .
Matt: She laughed really hard.
Me: Well she probably thinks we're serious and that we're freaks.
Matt: No, it made her feel better.
Me: We have to go to lunch with these people today.
Matt: Well it's 2 in the afternoon, so probably more likely dinner.

I'm totally with you on loving the fact that there would be another lady-friend to talk with all day, not to mention cook, clean, take care of the kids, do the carpool, I could go on and on! It would be awesome. But my husband is against the idea. He says he can barely keep his head above water with ONE wife!
This is hysterical - I would absolutely die lol. Leave it to a guy to repeat that kind of comment! My boyfriend and I love that show too (can't wait for it to start again!!) - but I could never share my man with another woman!! There'd be a throwdown in the first 5 minutes!
I LOVE it!! I love watching Big Love (and I'm not a polygamist either) but it's such a good show!! I tease that I could use a sister wife around here too but I don't share well, so sharing my DH would be a problem. Too funny!!
I lived in St. George, UT for 2 years and saw the polygamist on a regular basis... didn't look fun.. BUT, I think having a women around would be great.
I love that your husband told her. So funny.
