Untypical Marriage Counsel

One thing that makes me untypical is I don't pretend to have the perfect marriage. My husband, God love him (I do too) pisses me off sometimes and I know I'm a giant pain in his backside most days. But we love each other and that's the important part. Sometimes though, we get on each others nerves and we're not ones to give the silent treatment, not even in public.

Once while we were dating I snapped at him in the middle of a packed mall because he refused to take me home when I wanted to leave (I hate malls). Everyone was staring at us naturally, and I was made to look even more foolish when he did take me home, only to find that he had been stalling because I had a surprise birthday party waiting for me. Color me embarrassed!

Another time, while sharing an apartment with another couple I chased him through the front door, slamming it behind me and we broke into an argument in front of our roommates who, through terrified eyes, looked on as we screamed and shouted. By the time we were both done being angry, we weren't done being entertaining and I threw in a good, "Why don't you just hit me!" As I suspected, that was the line that got the roommates to leave the apartment, and we had the whole place to ourselves for the rest of the day.

Our arguments never last long, and they are few and far in between, and most of course are my own dang fault. One case in point was when I had been working a stressful job and had a very bad day. I was working 8 hour days, in addition to attending college and also being the housewife. I assumed that my husband had wanted me to get a job to pitch in some cashy money, while he had wished that I would just stay home and let him bring home the bacon. Communication is key people!

Anyways, a nasty argument erupted while we tried to get our feelings out and because I'm a hormonal woman (and he's cute when he's angry lol) I called him a very mean name. He turned, pointed at me and said, "Don't you ever call me that again!" Lord help me I don't know why I did what I did. After all, I was just as angry as he was. I was bordering on a good slap across his face to be honest, though I was certain my hand would hurt as he hadn't shaved in a few days and those prickly hairs were sharp!

However, at that moment, with my face red with fury, I reached over to his outstretched finger in my face, pulled it and made a very loud fart noise with my mouth.

The two of us erupted in laughter and the matter was closed. Since that night long, long ago, we actually haven't had a decently loud argument. Humor has always been something we share together, and we'll always remember the night when a good old fashioned fart joke, saved our marriage!
